Long-term operation and maintenance of stormwater best management practices (BMPs) is essential to effective management of stormwater quality and quantity and control of community infrastructure costs. In addition, Ohio EPA requires inspection and maintenance agreement for new storm water BMPs. This document includes a model inspection and maintenance agreement that can be tailored to individual communities and BMPs to meet Ohio EPA requirements. Lack of regular and long-term maintenance and the necessary funding for this maintenance decreases the efficiency of BMPs, and presents significant costs for local governments and landowners. Proper inspection, maintenance, and funding requirements within local stormwater management regulations ensure that BMPS are designed to facilitate inspection and maintenance and can help to ensure that regular inspection and maintenance activities are completed.
